My grandfather and Wernher von Braun were both colleagues and fierce competitors, both here in Peenemunde during World War 2 and later in the USA, after being recruited by Operation Paperclip. The dark history here is fascinating and tragic and important for the world to remember. Investigating my own ancestry has been hugely astonishing, educational, and extremely sad, the more I connect to this history and try to understand it on a deeper level than my school books allowed. #history #ancestry
